Overview

The Enterprise Foundation is a charity organisation offering shared and short-term office rental to other charities and small organisations throughout the UK.

Background

MPR IT was asked to look at providing high-speed secure wireless internet to both their full-time residences and also guests. Tracking visitors and being able to restrict their viewing and bandwidth was also very important along with strong branding. Another key area to consider was that this solution needed to be scalable both in terms of physical site size and the number of sites covered.

Solution

MPR IT took this task on and delivered it! Using our hosted servers and Ubiquity APs with managed switches and routers along with our hosted wireless capture portal we were able to deliver a small single office building to a multi-floor enterprise zone.

Results

All centrally managed from our support desk in the South East we have full control and visibility of each site, users and connected devices, and network usage all day every day.

With a simple rollout adding new centres is quick easy and cost-effective to the foundation whilst never sacrificing their offering to their customers.

Overview

Big Jig Toys are a very well-established toy manufacturing and wholesaler firm based in Kent with a large warehouse facility over multiple buildings.

Background

Big Jig had already started the rollout of their new wireless LAN for the warehouse and building links, however, due to unforeseen circumstances they were unable to complete the project. Sam the Operations Director called MPR IT and asked if we would take on the project and carry out the remainder of the work to get their needed wireless up and running ASAP!

Solution

MPR IT was more than happy to provide assistance, Big Jig had elected to use Ubiquity Wireless Hardware and switches, which we have vast experience with along with warehouse wireless installations. Some of the difficulties we faced on this project were that the main warehouse is made up of several buildings combined, which also has dense ceiling height racking throughout. Materials stored are mostly high-density hardwood toys, which makes RF signal propagation difficult, careful planning and deployment were, therefore, essential for full coverage.

Results

Cabling work was required along with the physical installation of the hardware, configuration, and testing.  In total, we rolled out a Wireless Point to Point bridge and 14 Access Points to the warehouse.

Across the country, Mr Clutch Autocentres operates the UK’s leading car servicing, brake, and transmission mechanical services and repairs with over 40 sites.

Background

Mr Clutch Autocentres approached MPR IT to assist with their email systems. Part of a larger project rolling out a state-of-the-art customer CRM system required the updating of the email delivery for the company. There were lots of difficulties to overcome due to the secure nature of their WAN (Wide Area Network) coupled with the demands from the marketing department to improve operational efficiencies. With 48 sites to rollout, the solution to it was a good size project.

Solution

Moving away from traditional and low-function email to Office 365 was the best route of action. With a mix of packages MPR IT was able to deliver to Mr Clutch a fully working 365 rollout to the demanding head office and the locked-down depots. 365 also brought in the easy-to-use centralised management, email tracking, filtering, and much more to the organisation.

Results

The team at Mr Clutch continues to use MPR IT for its IT Support and knowing that one simple call to MPR would mean that any questions could be answered or licenses adjusted without the need to contact Microsoft direct is a huge benefit to them.

Overview

The Kings School, in Canterbury, is described as possibly the oldest school in the world, with records dating back to 597AD, when St Augustine arrived to evangelize England. However, it was in 1541 when Henry VIII established the school with a headmaster, lower master and 50 Kings Scholars, leading to the school being known as Kings School. Set in the historic grounds of Canterbury Cathedral, a world heritage site. The buildings are a mix, dating from the 14th century to the newest in the 21st century. Offering independent, boarding and day school co-education for children aged 13 – 18.

Background

The school had a requirement to connect various buildings across Canterbury to the network, and due to the nature of the types of buildings, as well as strict planning regulations within the walled city, the solution needed to be sympathetic to the age of the buildings, as well as meeting today’s need of technical connectivity.

Solution

With a strong track record of delivering highly bespoke solutions, whilst maintaining a competitive price, MPR IT was approached by The Kings School to help design and roll out a high-speed LAN across the city of Canterbury, connecting multiple school grounds into a single network. Following an initial site survey, it was quickly identified that restrictions and costs,
meant that the use of a BT optic fibre or leased line network would not be suitable. Wireless was the perfect answer to connect four different buildings together with Point-to-Point Wireless technology. Taking into consideration an existing mobile phone infrastructure, public access, historic buildings and a railway

Results

As an official OFCOM registered company, MPR IT specified and installed the LigoPTP 5-23 PRO at the school’s main campus within the Music Hall. The link is then beamed 656 metres across Canterbury to the Malthouse, which would act as a central point. From here, two further links were sent out 148 metres to the Sports Hall and 264 metres to the Cricket Pavilion.
The end result is a 300 Mbps, light licenced, wireless network which is monitored from a central location to observe peaks and troughs in the frequency, the throughput of the bandwidth, as well as monitoring the ambient temperature of each unit and much more

Conclusion and Testimonial

“MPR IT have been flexible in their dealings with us, being willing to adjust to some unusual site environments and to coordinate parts of the installation work with our in-house technicians and premises managers. They were also proactive in contacting and liaising with a third-party provider, with whom we had to share space. They surveyed and proved the signal quality of the proposed equipment in advance of giving us a quote. Their work was of a good standard and the equipment has performed as predicted. They are prompt in checking any issues to which they are alerted by the monitoring system. We are very satisfied with their overall service and would certainly consider them for future work.”

Graham Bodey, IT Manager – The Kings School

Hilton Nursing Partners deliver innovative solutions with a vision of a successful healthcare provider. Working with the NHS and Social Care Commissioners they successfully deliver safe, timely, and supportive hospital discharges, patient assessments, and patient recovery programs.

Background

When the government announced its National Cyber Security Strategy, it was soon clear that for Hilton Nursing Partners to continue working with the NHS they would require certification in Cyber Essentials. Hilton turned to MPR IT for support in obtaining this certification Successfully adopting the Cyber Essentials standard will allow organisations to demonstrate that it has achieved a Government endorsed standard, as well as provide existing and potential customers reassurance that the organisation is committed to implementing cyber security controls. The standard is not just limited to companies in the private sector but is also applicable to any organisation that wishes to reassure itself and others of the security controls in place.

Solution

Working in conjunction with Intertek NA, a consulting and testing firm specialising in Information, MPR IT was able to support Hilton Nursing Partners in achieving the required standard to be accredited with Cyber Essentials certification. This required an in-depth audit and penetration testing of all in-house applications, telephones, networks, remote access, mobiles,
wireless, social media, and workstations to identify any vulnerabilities or weaknesses in cyber security.

Results

On completion of the testing, MPR IT then worked with Hilton Nursing Partners to ensure that they were fully compliant to achieve the certification – which we were delighted to see awarded well ahead of any expectation from the NHS.

Overview

Canterbury Archaeological Trust, one of the most famous Archaeology firms in the UK, has been with MPR IT now for over 12 years for all its technology needs and requirements.

In 2015, as the charity expanded in both staff and locations, coupled with the age of their old Exchange 2012 server, a crossroads was reached.  And it was a question we hear a lot, do we go to the Cloud or stay On-Premise with another Exchange server?

Background

As with many charities, funds are limited, and when it came to choosing the best solution, the price would be a consideration for the Trust.  For Charities, the choice of favorable software costs is well known, the discounts available are very generous which allows even the smallest charities to have the best of Microsoft’s software offerings which could almost make this choice harder. However, there are the same if not better discounts on Office 365 for charities.

Solution

MPR IT managed to secure a full E1 subscription free of charge (FOC) for this charity, instantly it was a no-brainer on cost alone.

Working closely with the Trust, a plan was implemented to ensure the migration would take place with minimal downtime and staff would not be disrupted.

Results

The migration was performed seamlessly from their old Exchange server, even with many staff not noticing the changeover!

There were onsite ERP systems to integrate back to Microsoft Cloud platforms, ensuring that email and communications were still working as designed was highly important.

Conclusion and Testimonial

The Trust was delighted with the solution recommended to them and continue to work with MPR IT for the tenancy of their Office licenses.  Over the years there have been enhancements released for security features within Office 365 and knowing that one simple call to MPR would mean that any questions could be answered or licenses adjusted without the need to contact Microsoft direct.

Overview

Malvern St James is a leading Boarding and Day School for girls aged 4-18.  The founders of Lawnside, The Abbey, Malvern Girls’ College, and St James’s School were all young women who saw education as the key factor for opening opportunities to the girls of their times. The proud history of this school dates back to the 1870s, during the 2nd World War, radar was developed in Malvern and the Royal Radar Establishment (now QinetiQ) remained after the war.

Background

The school was looking for help to connect their buildings together. They required help in providing a streamlined solution as opposed to their existing setup. The ADSL VPN technology already installed was not working for them and their 400+ students required much better connectivity within the classrooms and in halls to assist in their studies.

The school initially approached three companies, including MPR IT, to potentially run this project. Of the three companies asked, the first company advised that it was not possible following a week-long survey period. The second company, (an extremely well-known telecom company) also surveyed for this project and advised this could only be completed with a costly installation of Fibre connection.

Solution

MPR IT carried out a short survey across the multiple sites around the town and advised that this was indeed possible with the use of wireless hardware, much more cost-effective than fibre, and easy to install. The actual installation took a matter of hours and using our Wireless hardware we could obtain a strong and fast 300 Mbps bi-directional connection to each of the 4 targets around the town.

Results

Now, a fully installed VoIP phone system has also been rolled out and is in full operation along with sharing the main schools’ sites 100 Mbps leased line internet connection.

Overview

Saga is a British tour operating offering holidays to persons aged 50 and over.  Offering destinations and experiences across the globe, with multiple offices based in Kent.

Background

MPR IT was approached by Saga UK to install a redundant link between two of their sites in the South East of the UK. The sites were already connected by a leased fibre circuit and had an old wireless link in place that failed some time ago.

Saga needed to have at least 100 MB duplex between their UK Head office and remote site located in the next town over to automatically step in in the event of the main link failure.

Solution

MPR IT surveyed the site and using our wireless link planning tools determined which hardware would best suit the environment and Saga’s requirements. Off the back of this survey MPR IT recommended the use of a Cambium Networks solution 5 GHz link. This provided more than the needed bandwidth whilst keeping the costs down. Although a Microwave link was considered, the 5 GHz product was a better fit.

Results

Saga’s network was then set to use the Wireless link in the event of a mainline failure.
