Early in 2008, three friends – Alex, Richard and Andy became disenchanted by the way IT Support was provided to businesses in Kent and the South East. They felt that customer service and relationships were not a priority and it would result in many businesses bouncing around support companies on a regular basis.
After many discussions the three friends took the decision to start a new IT Support business offering a more pro-active relationship with customers, with the aim “To never sacrifice our high level of customer service for growth, we hope and believe that through good customer service our business will become the market leader in Kent.”
In the late spring of 2008, MPR IT Solutions was born in a small garden office with Alex, Andy and Richard utilising their individual skills to provide daily support and installation of network infrastructure.
With a strong belief that building relationships with customers, understanding the requirements of the business and employees it would give a clearer idea as to how technology can support and help customers to grow their own business. By offering impartial advice in simple terms and by not being tied to any one supplier means that MPR IT Solutions can ensure that the hardware and software required is the best to meet the individual needs.
11 Years on from the start
Over the last 11 years the business has grown substantially with an annual turnover of £1.4million, employing 24 people and supporting over 250 businesses across the South East. With a customer base comprising of a wide variety of customers from small home run businesses to large multi-office business throughout the UK and everything and anything in between.
The team handle over a thousand support tickets each month with 97% closed within an hour. To ensure that the level of service doesn’t reduce in any way we regularly ask for feedback and are immensely proud that we score 5/5 in 99% of our surveys. A large proportion of customers have been with MPR IT for many years and are happy to recommend our services to other business, it is clear, that the vision initially formed has proved to be a success.
Moving to Henwood Industrial Estate
Since the time spent in the garden office, MPR IT have moved several times to keep up with the on-going growth of the business and need to expand.
It was agreed at the end of 2018 that MPR IT would need to consider another move, and so we have recently relocated to the Henwood Estate. Using our own team of Engineers, we could guarantee the task of fitting out our new home would meet all the requirements we need today and pre-empting any future expansions. The project to refit the office took about 3 months and involved using our own knowledge, experience and skills. Once the initial building work was completed the team set about refitting the office from scratch using the skills and services that we offer to our own customers.
With so many changes in technology since MPR IT Solutions was first conceived, it was clear from the onset that our skills and offerings would need to become more and more diverse. No longer just offering daily IT Support, MPR IT now offers a wide range of services and products, including installation of Structured Cabling Networks, Server Infrastructure, Wireless networks, Point to Point Wireless, Fire Alarm, CCTV and Door Entry/Security systems along with Audio Visual installations.
Training & Encouraging the Team
Since the start of MPR IT Solutions we have employed 7 apprentices supporting local people to learn and qualify within the IT Industry. We strongly believe that young people should be given the opportunity to learn new skills and the chance to have a career and always open to take on more in the future. Many of our apprentices have gone on to stay with us and once qualified have become valued field engineers within MPR IT Solutions. New Office – Server Room
As you will probably be aware MPR IT are preparing to move to our new home. Our new offices will be based at the Henwood Estate in Ashford, and will accommodate our expanding team. We are currently in the process of recruiting for our Technical Help desk and with the extra room we will have there should be no issue for desk space.
The project to refit the new office seems to be running very quickly and we can start to see how the office will be once it is completed. Our team have worked hard to install structured cabling throughout the entire space for work spaces and AV. However the cables need to have an endpoint and so this week we are working on the server room.
As you can see before we could consider any installation, we first needed to make the room a clean space. With walls decorated and new flooring installed our team had the perfect space to work with. The new space is light and cool – the correct environment for server cabinets.
With the comms cabinet in place the team have been busy connecting the cables in an orderly fashion. Not only does this mean everything is neat and tidy, it also means that we can identify each individual cable. Work continues on the server room and we plan to have everything completed in there shortly.
With the end in sight for the project, it is now starting to look like home for MPR IT. Here is one part of the office space with some furniture starting to go in along with the new carpet. Looks so bright and fresh, we can’t wait to move in.Read more

We are pleased to welcome Mark Best, who joins us as a Sales and Account Manager. Some of you may know Mark – as he previously worked as a Sales Consultant for MPR IT in 2010-2011. During which time he won several new business projects /accounts, many of which remain loyal MPR IT customers today.
Mark is a highly motivated, focused, sales professional, with highly transferable skills in New Business Development and Key Account Management. With over 23 years of experience working in the Structured Cabling; IT Services; Energy Reduction & Electrical Contracting markets. Mark’s key strengths include B2B Consultative Solution/Project Specification Sales; Estimating & Tendering; On-site & Office Based Project Management.
Whilst Sales & Marketing principles are continuously re-invented and re-packaged, his core principles have never changed – Know Your Customer and Customer is King; Who; What, Why, When; How Much – keeping things simple are key reasons he has retained accounts and gained repeat business throughout his sales career.

Update on MPR IT New Office
MPR IT Solutions, are getting ready to move to our new offices at the Henwood Estate, Ashford. Since our last update, work has been coming along nicely. With plans to move during late Spring we are well on the way to meeting the deadline – or maybe even earlier.
After the initial building works were completed, stage two was the installation of the Structured Cabling network. The network has been designed and installed by our own qualified and experienced team of Engineers. Installing the network early on, meant fewer obstacles to work around. The team were able to make fast headway, and the network installation is complete.
With cables in place, our ceiling has now been installed. It is now starting to look more like an office and less like a building site. The tiled ceiling means that cables are hidden nicely away. However should be ever need access to them in the future we are safe in the knowledge that we can easily reach them. We have worked with many companies over the last 10 years and it is surprising how this often not considered when designing an office and cable network.
Not content with putting in the ceiling, we have also started on the floor, in the main office and kitchen.
Finally we have also installed a screen that will have multi-uses – CCTV, Team Activity & Target updates as well as general information for the team.
We will keep you updated on our progress as it continues and starts to look more like an office. Once the floors and decoration are complete, it will soon be ready for us to install workstations and make the move.

Exciting start to the New Year for MPR IT
Since the start of January, a lot has been happening here at MPR IT. As you will be aware it is now 10 years year since Alex, Andy and Richard started MPR IT. We are continuing to grow and strive with thanks to the continued custom from all our loyal clients. To ensure that we can continue to provide customer focused support, providing outstanding IT support and solutions, the Management team have been making lots of decisions.
Firstly, we are recruiting a number of roles for our Technical support team. Currently we are recruiting for:
1st Line Support Admin
2nd Line Support Engineer
3rd Line Support Engineer
We hope to have all these roles filled in the very near future, with some new team members already on board. As with any new member of the team, we will be ensuring they are inducted to the high standards both our customers and ourselves expect.
Next, it has become apparent that with our continued expansion we have out grown our current offices! Our second piece of exciting news is that we have now secured new premises in the Henwood Estate. With a large amount of work to carry out we hope to be able to move in time for late spring/early summer.
We are currently in the first phase which includes taking down walls and making the space more suitable for our ever-growing team.
Once the construction/demolition phase has completed, we will be entering the next phase. This is where our own expertise will be utilised and our own team will be installing following:

Government pledge to improve rural broadband
The government has made a pledge that by the end of 2020 every home and business in the UK will have the right to demand a minimum of 10mgb broadband. It has also promised that by the end of this year (2017) 90% of the UK will have a mobile signal. Some rural parts are still cut off from the internet and mobile signal in 2017. I was shocked when I discovered that 1.4million homes and business in the UK still receive nowhere near this level of service. Are you one of the people that, in some parts of the country are still subjected to dial up connection? I vaguely remember the sound when connecting to the internet of high pitch squealing & it sends shivers down my spine. Living in an urban area I can safely say that I get super fast broadband at 70mgb, & 4G service on my mobile.
Broadband in our daily life
As a mother, and someone that works fro home my life would be so much different without fast broadband. For example I would not be able to work from home to suit my childcare needs. Or be able to help my son do his homework. I often try to explain to my 5yr old that he doesn’t know how good he has it. When I was child we had 4 channels and if we were good, we got a trip to the video shop at the weekend. We didn’t have the option to flick through the latest films or TV shows available to download. So many people still don’t have this luxury, that I and many others take for granted.
Urban V Rural Life
If you are reading this and think well that can’t possibly be the case, you will be surprised as I was. One of our directors lives only 10 miles from Ashford, Kent. He has fibre broadband in his house, for all the good that means. Due to the distance from the local cabinet he gets 2mgb speed. He doesn’t have the option to stream TV content simply because his broadband is not quick enough, and struggles with checking emails or working from home.
With more and more people looking for a different lifestyle and commuting to work in towns and cities this is becoming more of an issue. We all know that many are already struggling with the issues on train travel in the South East. Many of these commuters quite often don’t have the option to work from home on the days when the trains aren’t running. So whilst the idea of working in a city and living in the country was for a better work/home balance this isn’t always the case.
It’s not just homeowners in rural areas that are suffering
Small businesses are also struggling, unable to compete against larger corporations. In this day and age you should be able to run a business from anywhere in the country no matter your skills or trade. Many people run businesses from home offices or a unit on a farm, whether it’s making furniture or running a virtual office assistant, broadband speed is paramount – customers want to look at websites and make contact by email, not pick up a phone. It’s just the way people expect to communicate today.
It is also affecting the younger generation as well. I am really impressed with the ICT set up in my son’s school. It’s surprising how much the internet can play a part in the school day. If he was at a school in a rural area would he get the same benefits as a town school? It’s very possible that some schools in rural areas have very limited connection. So if we look at the future this lack of broadband in rural areas is also affecting our future workforce, as technology is everywhere in the workplace.

BBC’s Countryfile recently included a report on how many parts of the country that do not have broadband. A farmer trying to complete his tax returns or get the latest farming news from the Government was struggling with 42kb speed and as the phone lines where he lived were not always reliable even this couldn’t be relied on. Meaning that after a frustrating 45 mins he still could not check emails for the camping side of his business. This meant that he missed out on potential bookings and enquiries for people to pay and stay at his farm in the summer months. I looked into this further and found another clip also by Countryfile from 2013 highlighting the same issues. In the earlier clip it showed very similar stories and how peoples live were affected. With rural high street banks and post offices closing, it is expected that people will use the internet for these services, when in fact these are the areas that don’t have the broadband to support these services. Nothing has changed much in the intervening years.
Both episodes, it highlighted how people living in these rural areas were trying to overcome the issues. In one a cop-operative of farmers were digging trenches in their own fields to have cables laid and cabinets installed to connect their properties and businesses, in the other it showed how the installation of point to point wireless portals could be installed on the side of a property to collect the radio waves from a radio mast 6 miles away. In principal this is the best option without the need to lay cables and install cabinets, however there can be environmental factors which can affect your choice of how to improve your internet connection.Read more
