To address any potential hardware limitations, MPR IT Solutions requested information regarding the models of the three physical servers, their connections, and the existing RAID arrays and LUNs on the current SAN. This information would help determine if any expansion cards or additional disks were required for the new servers.

They discovered that two hypervisors and multiple virtual machines were already running Windows 2016, with their data stored on the SAN and accessed from storage pools.   • MAM, the provider of the SQL database for parts and customer orders, had already migrated to Azure after upgrading its SQL database.
  • Filemaker was also considering upgrading to a cloud-based solution.

To meet the increased demands of their operations and ensure seamless connectivity to their databases, Rego Parts required an enhanced VPN solution. While the external sites in Belgium currently connect to Paddock Wood through a VPN, they will eventually transition to a direct connection to Azure in the cloud.

In the future, Rego Parts plans to migrate all their data to SharePoint and replace their on-premises server with a domain controller. To ensure secure connectivity, they will need a firewall device that enables all users to connect securely.

Solution:

MPR was required to provide a connection from the server to MAM’s Azure Cloud services, MPR would also facilitate a leased line with 1GB bandwidth for internet connectivity. This high-speed and dedicated connection will ensure fast and reliable access to the internet, enabling seamless communication and data transfer between Rego and external resources. By combining the leased line and the server connection, MPR aims to deliver a comprehensive and efficient IT infrastructure solution for Rego’s business needs.

MPR collaborated closely with Rego Parts to design and implement a customised VPN solution that optimises connectivity to their critical databases. Additionally, MPR engaged in discussions with the database providers to ensure the solution met all requirements.

After an in-depth consultation, Rego carefully considered their options and decided to proceed with the more cost-effective VPN solution and Watchguard connection in all sites for their security needs.

During the project scoping, we determined the purpose and requirements of the VPN connection to MAM. As a result, we configured all Watchguard devices for VPN to MAM. This process took one day and aimed to assist MAM with the connection during the migration.

With MAM taking charge of the migration process, including handling printer connectivity and software upgrades. Rego approved a 1GB leased line to meet their connectivity needs.

Results:

To establish the new line and connect with the MAM server, Rego Parts decided to implement a Watchguard and we acquired the necessary Auth Point licenses on their behalf. An engineer from MPR Technical Services played a crucial role in this process, conducting an on-site visit to ensure the successful setup of the VPN and Authpoint.
